Dr. John Jaeger and Dr. Tania Villasenor are developing an online course based on their f2f course in Sedimentary Geology. An important component in the f2f course is an eight-week project that involves traveling a couple of hours north from the University of Florida to Little Talbot Island State Park for field work. Knowing that they are developing an online course to launch in 10 months, they decided to take cameras to record this field trip while they are teaching the course for Fall 2015. Dr. Jaeger wore a Go Pro camera and Dr. Villasenor used a handheld digital camera. The combined footage will be edited together to allow online students to get both the big picture sense of the terrain as well as detailed looks at the sedimentary rock formations.

After watching the video, the online students will be given the data recorded on the trip and required to perform their own data analyses. This is just one way that professors are finding ways to bring the best aspects of their f2f classes into online learning.
