Technology to Improve Instructor Presence
In this instructional development opportunity, participants will explore strategies and tools to create an effective online instructor presence and incorporate technology into teaching. Participants will practice creating engaging and interactive instructional videos.
In applying best practice for course design, each module is consistent in structure and organization. With the goal of making participants more comfortable with the online learning environment, this is especially important to consider when implementing any new technology. To successfully complete this course, participants will be required to complete required activities that apply module concepts.
Technology to Improve Instructor Presence incorporates a variety of instructional materials for participants to explore. Each module introduces topics and concepts that help participants explore how they can utilize technology to improve instructor presence. Each module concludes with an activity, in which learners will practice or reflect on how they can incorporate tools to build presence and community in the online classroom.
Overview of the Digital Age
The Overview of the Digital Age module outlines a brief historical background on the use of technology in education. Participants will analyze the technological changes that have occurred as education continues into the digital age. The module concludes with participants discussing the technological changes in education that they have experienced and predicting how they will have to adapt to these and other changes in the future.
Adapting Assessments with Technology
The Incorporating Technology into Teaching module guides participants through strategies to incorporate technology into teaching. Participants will learn how to properly use technology for adapting a traditional assessment and support student achievement. Also, participants will review research-based approaches to teaching with technology and the ways technology can be used for engaging and empowering learning. The module will end with participants applying what they’ve learned by adapting an assessment they would normally assign to students using the technology showcased in the module.
This is the first offering in a two-part series designed for participants to earn the Teaching with Technology certificate of completion. Successful completion of all course requirements earns participants an open badge. This includes a course description and the criteria required to receive the badge.
