Together we are Building an AI University. Faculty are adopting, implementing, and creatively using AI at UF! In 2024, the AI2 Center, Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE), and UFIT’s Center for Instructional Technology & Training (CITT) honored exemplary instructors who have contributed to teaching with AI. Check out their videos to learn more!
AI Educators of the Year
- AI at UF: Dr. Sanethia Thomas: AI empowers students to solve real-world problems for the international community through study abroad/service abroad programs. Students engage in experiential learning as they collaborate with non-profit organizations and use AI to accelerate the development cycle.
- AI at UF: Diego Alvarado: AI is for everybody! The AI Fundamentals challenges students to build and apply AI in simulated scenarios. Over 2,000 students from all majors have completed the course and gained practical understanding of how AI works.
AI Course Award
- AI at UF: Dr. Ruogu Fang: Dr. Fang strives to make AI relatable and applicable to students’ future careers. Using a flipped classroom model allows students to apply AI concepts through active learning, receive real time feedback from experts, and participate in team-based problem solving.
AI Course Integration Award
- AI at UF: Dr. Kaitlin Alexander: AI can be a powerful partner to teach critical evaluation skills for clinical students. A drug information activity helps learners understand the limitations of AI, requiring them to reflect deeply on their own knowledge and where it diverges from AI outputs.
AI Across the Curriculum Award
- AI at UF: Dr. Garrett Beatty: Let’s be curious! AI Across the Curriculum at UF requires a bold attitude and willingness to explore. Dr. Garrett Beatty has been at the forefront of experimentation with AI chatbots in his Applied Sports Science course.
AI Rising Star Award
- AI at UF: Dr. Emma “Mickey” MacKie: AI Quest courses like AI in a Changing Climate confront students with defining issues of our era. Undergraduates from diverse majors learn the basics of regression analysis, machine learning, and neural networks to play with data modeling around climate science. Discussing climate science misinformation and AI ethics challenges side-by-side supports deeper learning.
